Suffering well might sound like a contradiction, but it is the process of going to God over and over again and allowing Him to change us through the process of suffering. As believers we can be confident in who God says He is and that He will do what He says - but in seasons of suffering those truths can be harder to hold on to. We want to be careful to not minimize suffering, or imply that suffering well means we walk through hard things perfectly. It does not have to be big and glorious. Suffering well can just be putting one foot in front of the other in daily life.
Although accepting comfort can be difficult, comfort has the ability to change us in a way conviction and encouragement sometimes cannot. As we accept comfort walking through our suffering we will also learn to comfort others in their seasons of suffering. We learn how to weep with those who weep, and how to be sensitive as we comfort those who are still in tender places. We can be encouraged that we don't need to be at the end of our story in order to be useful! We can be honest that we are still wrestling and haven’t reached the “happily ever after” while also reminding ourselves and others of who God is and what He has promised.
